What is BIOS & UEFI??

BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

The important part of you computer is the fusion(combination) of hardware and software is a Basic Input Output System, BIOS.

So the BIOS is a very small piece of code which sits on a read only memory or a flash storage of your computer’s motherboard.

It can also be referred to as motherboards firmware,As it links the software to the hardware.

Well consider your spinal cord connecting your brain and organs via a electrical signal or impulse similarly the bios connects the software and hardware.

So when you turn your computer on the BIOS is the first thing to spring into action and wakes up the entire system similar to the car’s ignition gets the car running.

the bios first check the setting thats stored on a cmos chip to determine how the user wants the system to run, So that’s all the stuff which you get to see in the utility when you press delete or f8 when you switch on the computer.

Then it initialises the devices accordingly Cpu, Ram, Peripherals, etc.

If everything is good you will listen a single beep.

If you get a beep beep beep then you should know that its not a morse code its a error due to loose connection or improper connection, you need to check your Ram, Graphics card, etc.

Once that is done the device now looks for a bootable device such as a Usb disk or Internal HDD , with a operating system on it then it handoff the control to OS.

Now the newer version of OS like the Windows 10 controls the device more directly and once the system is boot the BIOS goes to sleep instantly, till the system needed to start the things again.

The way the BIOS was implemented since now had some serious limitations one of the limitations were,

drive support.

The system that a conventional BIOS seems to access HardDrive or SSD called the Master Boot Record (MBR) could only handle partitions less than 2TB and that was f9 for a long time but with newer technology with HarDrive’s which could hold up more than that data size we needed something more.

Here came the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) which no one can agree how to pronounce.

It can handle many TerraBytes and with a faster speed and performance is great than a conventional BIOS to boot up, also has a graphical UI old BIOS had a blue screen, but which was even okie considering the typical old ways when you had to move the jumpers around the motherboard in order to change the boot settings.

Below is the simple comparison on the BIOS V.S UEFI
